IDEA Teacher Responsibilities
FAPE (Free and Appropriate Public Education) It is the teacher's job to provide an opportunity of education for all students.
IEP (Individualized Education Program) A team which will consist of multiple members but will have the student's teacher of their special education classroom and general education classroom included . They will create a written program that will best benefit the student. This written program will include the students current status, yearly goals, and the plan of action. The student's program will be evaluated every year. Usually the case manager is the special education teacher.
LRE (Least Restrictive Environment) When planning a students IEP teachers must set a goal for the least restrictive environment. It has been found that students perform best and deserve to learn in a regular classroom if possible. When the student's IEP is made the team place the student in a setting that is best for that individual student.
Procedural Due Processing The teacher must inform parents/guardians in all aspects of the student's education. The teacher should also keep each case confidential.
Parental Participation Teachers should allow the parent/guardian to have input in the decisions that are made about their child's education.
Nondiscriminatory Assessment Before a student is put in a IEP they must be evaluated and tested multiple times.
