Alabama Statues on Child Abuse and Neglect
Law/Importance
Under this law there are certain people in society that are required to report suspected abuse and neglect. Teachers are one of these people. Certainty is not required. Alabama Department of Human Resources will investigate every cases presented to them. The report of suspected abuse should be called in and then a written report provided. It is best to present as much information as the teacher is able to. For example the name of student, name of the parent/guardian, the address of the student and parent/gaurdian, when and where you saw evidence of the suspected abuse or neglect. DHR will investigate and protect the child if necessary.
Penalty for Noncompliance
Penalty for failure to report suspected abuse and neglect for teachers is charged with a misdemeanor, could face up to 6 months in jail, and a fee of $500.00.
